Related themes
Anthony Thenaisy, a young photographer aged just over twenty, began his artistic journey by acquiring his first camera. From then on, he regularly captured his environment, drawing his eye to often overlooked details, such as a church hidden behind the foliage of a tree. Gradually, a recurring theme emerges in his work: that of disappearance. He is interested in traces, in emptiness, in what is gradually erased, in vagueness.
His photographs, whether in black and white or color, seek to question the place of natural spaces in our contemporary world. He often uses blur to evoke the notion of disappearance, particularly that of the living. His landscapes seem to disappear when the shot is taken, thus inviting the viewer to read another story, where the border between reality and fiction becomes blurred.
Anthony Thenaisy also addresses themes linked to the human condition and the individual's relationship to space. His photographs feature wide shots where women and men often appear distant or absent. It explores the boundaries between documentary and fiction, with an underlying political dimension. The complexity of the relationship between man and nature is at the heart of his work.
Despite the distance maintained with his subject, his photographs are the result of a deliberately ambiguous attempt, leaving room for chance and interpretation. They also look at issues such as housing, migration and the pressure exerted by humans on ecosystems.
