Biography
Barbara Vandendriessche is een fotografe wiens professionele reis begon in de theaterwereld, waar ze twintig jaar werkte als regisseur en scenograaf. De fotografie drong echter geleidelijk zijn professionele pad binnen en bood hem een terugkeer naar zijn roots en een nieuwe bron van inspiratie. Terwijl ze theater bleef doceren aan de Luca School of Arts en werkte als freelance decorontwerper, besloot ze haar verhaal te vertellen door middel van fotografie en beeldhouwkunst.
In haar foto's creëert Barbara omgevingen die fysieke en psychologische kwetsbaarheid onderzoeken. Het doel is om emoties op te wekken, om beelden vast te leggen met een rauwe emotionele intensiteit in plaats van met precieze bedoelingen. Zijn beelden hebben de kracht om een verhaal te vertellen zonder noodzakelijkerwijs verhalend te zijn, en nodigen de kijker uit om de emoties die naar voren komen te voelen en te interpreteren.
Naast fotografie wijdt Barbara zich aan beeldhouwkunst, waarbij ze het thema schade onderzoekt door het gebruik van materialen en het uiten van emoties. Zijn sculpturen vertegenwoordigen vaak gebroken, beschadigde of onvoltooide figuren, maar ze stralen altijd een bepaalde vonk uit, een sprankje hoop of leven dat zelfs te midden van de nood waarneembaar is.
