Hassan Laamirat is a contemporary Moroccan sculptor. He mostly works with recycled metal parts that were found in Marrakech's scrap metal neighborhood. He employs pinions, chains, tool keys, locks, bearings, springs, bolts and nuts, ventilation grates, spark plugs, and even shock absorbers, tank parts, and gas cylinders, which are all mechanical parts of bicycles, motorbikes, cars, and ancient tools.
These pieces are true upcycling, as they combine waste and mechanical parts to create a sculpture of an animal, giving these wastes a new life. His universe has grown to include prehistoric species, aliens, and robots from science fiction films and comic books.
Hassan Laamirat was born in 1982, in Morocco.
