Questa è l’ultima volta che la racconto perché manca poco che non ci creda più anch’io: pedalavo
piuttosto veloce per star dietro alla macchina del Commendatore Salvi; dalla mia tuta saliva l’odore
di ferro cotto e l’untuoso aroma delle emulsioni di olio lubrificante.
Piegai la testa indietro per fare entrare nelle narici l’umida nebbia; chiusi per un attimo gli occhi,
abbastanza per andare a sbattere contro la grossa Mercedes nera che aveva frenato bruscamente
a causa di un gatto; sfondai il vetro posteriore e mi infilai nella macchina dando un tremendo
spintone al commendatore.
Fu in quel breve momento che si perpetrò lo scambio che mi portò a entrare con tale violenza nel
commendatore cacciandolo dal suo corpo.
Ero tramortito ma non dall’effetto della frenata, ma da quel che ero diventato: ero io il
Commendatore.
“Coraggio Piero, questa sì che la è grossa”, mi dissi: io sono il tipo che sta’ al gioco.
Il Salvi invece, si era trovato col culo a terra al mio posto, e quando si era alzato un po’ tramortito,
vedendo che gli rifilavano la mia bicicletta colla ruota storta ed il manubrio al contrario, s’è
incazzato e insultando tutti; urlava come un pazzo: “ la Mercedes è mia! la Mercedes è mia!”
cercando di tirarmi fuori dalla macchina con Clemente, l’autista, aggrappato che mi tratteneva.
Schizofrenico, l’han portato al neurodeliri.
Sono passati cinque mesi e mi sono rotto un po’ le scatole di godere dei piaceri del
Commendatore; vorrei andare a casa dalla mia Vincenzina che è tornata dalla madre, così che,
questa mattina, seduto nella Mercedes nera, indico nella nebbia a Clemente una sagoma in
bicicletta: è lui, è il Salvi, “accelera un po’!”.
